The homeless are a major problem in Santa Cruz.
I’ve seen some disturbing things near downtown:
Feces on the sidewalk, drug needles in spaces where young children are, homeless people injecting drugs, a homeless man with a machete, a homeless woman with no pants crawling in her own vomit.
The feces, vomit, tents, needles, and litter are disgusting and unsanitary.
Recently, a homeless man tapped on my window to rob my home. I caught a homeless man breaking into my car. A homeless man wandered into my garage “looking for a friend.” The homeless present health and safety risks to citizens, especially women and children.
Drug addiction is not a victimless crime because it is often funded by burglary, assault, or prostitution. Santa Cruz needs to get real about the rampant homeless problem.
