COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Department of Health reported 2,167 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, nearly 1,000 cases over the level reported Tuesday.
On Tuesday, there were 1,197 new coronavirus cases.
On July 5, there were just 210 new cases.
Ohio’s coronavirus cases appear to be fast on the rise, most likely thanks to the highly contagious delta variant.
The Department of Health doesn’t have real-time data on how many cases are in people who are not vaccinated. The state’s vaccination rate still remains under 50% of people who have received at least one dose.
Ohio’s vaccination rate also lags the national vaccination rate, in which 57.9% of Americans have received at least one dose.
By 6 a.m. Wednesday, 46.9% of Ohioans had received at least one vaccine dose, or 5.8 million people. This is an increase of 11,794 people beginning vaccines since Tuesday.
In other data from Wednesday’s report:
-On Wednesday, the 21-day average of cases was 939. On July 5, the 21-day average was 251.
-792 people were hospitalized with the coronavirus. This is a net decrease of one person since Tuesday, when considering admissions and discharges.
