Here are updates about coronavirus cases in Brevard, according to the Florida Department of Health, as of July 18, 2020.
Brevard registered three new deaths and 115 cases Saturday morning, according to Florida Department of Health data.
In five days, FDOH has reported 20 COVID-19 deaths here.
A total of 4,060 people have tested positive since the pandemic began, with 2,267 of those cases registered in July. FDOH data also show there have been 49 total deaths with 32 of those reported this month.
In some cases, a victim died before the COVID-19 test results could be confirmed. Here's info about the three deaths reported Saturday:
- a 64-year-old male whose case was not travel-related. It is unknown if he had contact with a known case. His case was confirmed July 17.
- an 83-year-old male whose case was not travel-related. He did have contact with a known case. His case was confirmed July 17.
- a 57-year-old male whose case was not travel-related. It is unknown if he had contact with a known case. His case was confirmed July 17.
Victims ranged in age from 56 to 101. As of Friday, the average age of those who died from the virus was 78.

Coronavirus in Brevard, July 17: 2 deaths, 141 cases

Brevard has conducted 65,920 coronavirus tests. Of those, 4,060 have tested positive and 61,818 have been negative. Of those who tested positive, 4,042 are residents and 18 are nonresidents. The median age of those testing positive in Brevard is 39. The percent positive for new cases in the county increased to 6.2%. So far, 1,920 males have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and 2,107 females.
FDOH data show 275 Florida residents have been hospitalized in Brevard, an increase of 23 from the previous day.
According to the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, on Saturday afternoon, Brevard had 140 people hospitalized for COVID-19 in its seven major hospitals. AHCA data also show 1,170 hospital beds in its seven major hospitals as of 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Of those, 27% were available for new patients. AHCA data show the county had 172 ICU (intensive care unit) beds available Saturday afternoon, with the percentage at 28% available.
On July 17, of 2,200 tests performed here, 2,082 were negative and 118 tested positive for a percent positive of 5.4%.
Statewide stats
The state added 10,328 new cases Saturday, which was the fourth day in a row with 10,000 or more cases.
Saturday also marked the 25th consecutive day the state added at least 5,000 new cases. The total number of cases in Florida increased to 337,569, with 333,201 residents and 4,368 non-residents testing positive. The percentage of people testing positive for COVID-19 in Florida increased to 11.5%.
The state registered 441 new hospitalizations, bringing the total number of Florida residents hospitalized since the pandemic began to 20,632.
The number of deaths of Florida residents rose to 4,895, an increase of 90 from the previous day.
Overall, FDOH data show 2,935,521 have been tested statewide; 337,569 were positive and 2,594,419 tested negative for the coronavirus.
