MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A simple arrest for a stolen trailer leads to Madison County Sheriff’s investigators unraveling what they say is an organized crime theft ring.
Four people have been charged for their roles in the ring which targeted trailers, lawn mowers and other equipment.
According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, the four and the charges against them are:
— Joshua Riddle, 31, of Richmond, charged with Engaging in Organized Crime after deputies determined he was paying employees to steal trailers and deliver them to a storage unit. He also is charged with Receiving Stolen Property under $10,000;
— Tyler Richmond, 22, and Willie Murray, 28, both of Richmond, are charged with Engaging in Organized Crime. They also are charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking and Possession of Burglary Tools relating to a June 17 trailer theft that sparked the investigation;
— Issac Polly, 20, of Richmond, is charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking and Possession of Burglary Tools in the June 17 cases and faces charges of engaging in organized crime.
According to the department, deputies responded to Bradley Drive on a trailer theft complaint on June 17, 2020 around 2:51 a.m.
Deputies, with assistance of Richmond Police Department, were able to stop a vehicle on KY 52 (Irvine Road) around Greens Crossing, the department said in a release.
The traffic stop resulted in the recovery of a stolen trailer and the arrest of Richmond, Murray and Polly.
A subsequent investigation led investigators to a storage unit on Corporate Drive where two additional stolen trailers and a stolen zero-turn mower were recovered and returned to their owners, the department said.
