Brevard County reported four coronavirus deaths, two of which were connected to longterm care facilities such as nursing homes and assisted-living facilities, according to Florida Department of Health data. In five days, the county saw 20 newly recorded deaths (see case snapshot below).
Brevard also added 71 new coronavirus cases Friday.
Here's info about the latest deaths:
• a 64-year-old male whose case was not travel-related. He had contact with a known case. His case was confirmed Aug. 4.
• an 82-year-old male whose case was not travel-related. He had contact with a known case. His case was confirmed Aug. 8.
• a 76-year-old female whose case was not travel-related. It is not known whether she had contact with a known case. Her case was confirmed Aug. 25.
• an 85-year-old male whose case was not travel-related. It is not known whether he had contact with a known case. His case was confirmed Sept. 17.
Here's info about the four deaths reported Thursday:
• a 90-year-old female whose case was not travel-related. She had contact with a known case. Her case was confirmed July 15.
• an 83-year-old female whose case was not travel-related. It is not known whether she had contact with a known case. Her case was confirmed Aug. 15.
• a 78-year-old male whose case was not travel-related. It is not known whether he had contact with a known case. His case was confirmed Aug. 18.
• an 84-year-old female whose case was not travel-related. It is not known whether she had contact with a known case. Her case was confirmed Aug. 31.

So far, the county has lost 274 people to the virus, with 64 of those deaths reported this month. At least 164 deaths were connected to longterm care facilities such as nursing homes, up two from the previous day. Victims range in age from 25 to 103.
The coronavirus case total for the county was 8,264 — 8,238 residents and 26 nonresidents affected.
It's important to note the exact dates of these deaths are not made public by the department of health. Often there is a lag between the person's death and when it is reported by the Florida Department of Health. Also, a "case" is a person who tests positive for the first time, according to FDOH.
The total number of people tested in Brevard was 101,374 (93,051 testing negative), for a cumulative positive percentage rate of 8.15%. FDOH county report show on Thursday 1,734 people tested negative, and there was a percent positive of 3.99% for new cases here.
The median age of those testing positive here is 44. The state average is 40.
FDOH data show 755 Florida residents have been hospitalized in Brevard since the pandemic began, up three from the previous day.
In total, 3,718 males and 4,441 females have tested positive for coronavirus.
According to the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, at 1 p.m. Friday, Brevard had 44 people hospitalized for COVID-19 in its seven major hospitals, up one from the previous day. Of the 1,416 total staffed hospital bed capacity, 31% of beds were available in those hospitals. Of the 167 total adult ICU bed capacity, 25% were available.

FDOH dashboard show the state added 3,204 cases Friday for a cumulative total of 677,660 cases (669,684 residents and 7,976 nonresidents affected. The dashboard also shows 5,045,344 people have been tested with 4,360,601 negative results for a cumulative percent positive of 13.43%.
Statewide, the death toll for Florida residents was 13,225 with 139 newly recorded deaths.
Total number of Florida residents hospitalized since the pandemic began increased to 42,234, an increase of 187 from the previous day.
