FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) - Allen County Prosecutors have filed a murder charge in a 2019 fatal shooting.
Demetre Payton, 27, is charged with murder and pointing a firearm in connection to the shooting death of Jamarkus Kindred.
Police discovered 33-year-old Jamarkus Kindred’s body on July 27, 2019, in a grassy field outside of downtown Fort Wayne.

The coroner's office said Kindred died from a gunshot wound to the head and also suffered from three separate gunshot wounds to the right forearm.
His death was ruled a homicide.
Days after the shooting, detectives took still images from surveillance video in the area of the crime scene near the intersection of Lafayette and Williams Street. The video reportedly captures four witnesses to the crime.
Not long after the shooting, detectives distributed still images of Payton, Witness 2 and Witness 4 were sent to local media.
Soon after publication, calls to the detective bureau identified Witness 2 and Witness 4. Investigators were able to track them down and interview them about the crime.
Witness 4 told investigators he knew the shooter as "Meech," but couldn't pick him out in a photo array.
Witness 2 -- who told police he was related to Payton -- identified Payton as the shooter but said it was done in self-defense.
Detectives said the video captures people dancing and having a good time at a building nearby.
However after an hour, the mood abruptly changes.
Detectives said the video shows the victim and Payton go into vehicles when Witness 4 is shown getting into a black Mercedes.
During the last two times Kindred is seen going to his vehicle, Payton is seen following him.
Four men are shown together on video at the Mercedes when Payton is captured walking toward the victim.
Kindred and Witness 3 are show backing away from Payton when he reportedly raised a gun and fired at Kindred.
Detectives said the video shows Payton continue to shoot at the victim while he's on the ground, and then he retreated to the Mercedes.
Before getting into the car, though, police said Payton pointed his gun at Witness 3 and left with Witness 4 and Witness 2.
