WAYNE COUNTY, MI – Two local Southeast Michigan police departments and federal law enforcement believe a rash of home invasions are related to an international crime ring, WXYZ Detroit reports.
While police have not apprehended any suspects, at least two have been identified and are believed to be from Chile, the TV station reports.
Two homes were targeted on the evening of Feb. 1, the report said. The first burglary happened around 7:30 p.m. in Grosse Pointe Park; about $20,000 in valuables was stolen. The second occurred around 8 p.m. in Gross Pointe Shores; valuables were stolen, but the suspects fled when a home security system alerted police, the report said.
Police searched for the suspects but did not locate them, the report said. However, they did recover a vehicle containing most of the stolen items, including jewelry and cash.
The FBI and U.S. Customs and Border Protection are assisting Grosse Pointe Park and Gross Pointe Shores police departments with the investigation, the report said.
