Regarding the July 20 Metro article “Bowser approves overtime to find killer”:
It appears that D.C.’s elected officials only react to crime when a child is killed. For years, D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) has been missing in action regarding the rampant crime throughout the city. There have been a few times the mayor has publicly commented about a specific murder victim — usually when it has been the senseless killing of a child. I am passionate about lessening crime because I have been personally touched. On Nov. 4, my 24-year-old son, Terrence Jones, was killed as he walked home from a neighborhood store.
I am a lifelong, native Washingtonian. My family and neighbors deserve to live in peace. A walk to a store should not end in violence or murder. Nothing will change until the city’s elected officials take all murders and crimes as seriously as they do enforcing parking and speeding infractions.
