BOYNTON BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2021 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Papa John’s delivery driver was carjacked at gunpoint by a man who apparently apologized as he stole her vehicle Thursday evening, just before 5 p.m.

That man, Khalil Wilderson of West Palm Beach, is now in the Palm Beach County Jail. He is facing carjacking and multiple other charges.

This is the official police narrative written by one of the responding Boynton Beach Police officers. It suggests Wilderson ordered Papa Johns with the sole intent of carjacking the driver who would later respond.

POLICE NARRATIVE

“Upon arrival, Officer Corm made contact with the victim who provided a sworn body camera statement at which time she stated that she is a delivery driver for Papa John’s and was delivering a pizza to a “Donald Leighfort” who used a phone number (redacted) and provided an address of 3531 S Federal Highway #G. SUMLER stated that she parked in a visitor spot directly in front of unit G to wait for the subject to meet her by her vehicle to deliver the pizza.

(The victim) stated that she never saw anyone exit apartment #G. She stated that she then observed a B/M approximately 5’7″ thin build, mid 20’s, wearing a navy blue “polo” style hat, a blue/black long sleeve dry fit shirt, blue swim trunks, and sneakers. (The victim) was very intricate on the suspect description to include that the shirt was a “guy Harvey style shirt”. (The victim) stated the male came from the southern end of the development and walked by her vehicle, which did not have a “Papa Johns” sign on it.

The victim advised that the male was staring at his phone and then turned and asked her “Papa Johns?” in which she replied yes. The victim stated the male then proceeded to point a small black style handgun in her direction and proceeded to tell her to get out of the vehicle. The victim stated that there seemed to be something off with the male as he repeatedly began to apologize to her for what he was doing.

The victim stated the male then pushed her out of the vehicle at which time she dropped the pizza and fell on the ground, thus causing a small scrape to her right elbow and to her right knee. The victim refused any medical treatment and photos were taken via officer Corum’s BWC. The suspect then gained possession of her vehicle and drove out of the neighborhood towards Old Dixie Highway. The victim stated that the suspect was in possession of the only keys to the vehicle and that there was no personal property of value within the vehicle with the exception of $200.00 cash in the center console.

The victim stated she would be able to identify the suspect should she see him again. The victim stated that she wishes to press charges and gave permission on my BWC for BBPD to enter her vehicle to conduct crime scene. It should be noted that the victim advised that she was in fear for her life during the encounter.”

Vehicle Found, Suspect Known By Police

The vehicle was later found at an area store where surveillance video allegedly captured the suspect removing his shirt and fleeing. An officer, according to the report, reviewed the video and knew the suspect — he had recent stopped Khalil Wilderson on a motor vehicle violation.

Khalil Wilderson of Dove Landing Road in West Palm Beach is now charged with one count of robbery — carjacking with a firearm or weapon; burglary of an unoccupied structure; larceny; criminal mischief; and two counts of failing to appear in court on unrelated charges.

Wilderson is being held on $31,000 bond.
