On September 25 at about 4 p.m.
Officers responded to 4th and Pico for a disturbance at a business. Officers arrived on scene and contacted the subject of the call, Melvin Scott, and determined he had been arrested earlier in the day for rummagining through someone’s vehicle without permission. The victim of the previous incident contacted SMPD a second time when Scott again, returned to the vehicle and began going through the contents, this time, while the victim was in the car. An altercation between both parties occurred and ultimately, the victim began to chase Scott and ran into the local AM PM market while accusing Scott of stealing a phone charger. Officers located the charger in question in Scott’s pocket and arrested him for Petty Theft. Scott was issued another citation to return to court on December 6, 2021.
