CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Ritchie County became the 51st county to report a positive COVID-19 case in West Virginia since mid-March in numbers released by the state Department of Health and Human Resources Sunday evening.

The state’s positive test rate for all tests given stayed at 2.31 percent Sunday and no new deaths were reported. Fifty state residents have died from COVID-19, according to the DHHR.

There have been 51,783 tests given and 1,195 have come back positive.

The only counties not to report a positive case are Calhoun, Clay, Doddridge and Webster counties. The most cases have been reported in Kanawha, Berkeley, Jackson and Monongalia counties.

The DHHR says there are 503 active cases with 73 people hospitalized. Twenty-eight of those patients are being treated in ICU with 15 on a ventilator.

State DHHR Secretary Bill Crouch is expected to report final test results from 123 nursing homes Monday. It took two weeks to test all patients and staff members.

Gov. Jim Justice’s new safer-at-home order goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. Monday replacing the stay-at-home order he issued March 24.
