VALLEJO – Authorities are investigating a hate crime incident at Blue Rock Springs Park in Vallejo.

The incident was reported about 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, Vallejo police said in a news release.

Police said the suspect spray-painted a swastika with references to “white power” and a racial epithet on the side of a restroom.

“This was an evil, despicable act and these types of crimes will not be tolerated in our community,” said police Chief Shawny Williams in a statement. “The dignity and worth of all people should be valued and respected, and this is the standard we must uphold.”

In the news release, police said “all resources will be utilized to bring those responsible to justice.”

The hate crime incident follows one in Union City on Sunday. Racist graffiti was found on a Saturn parked near Almaden Boulevard and Alvarado Niles Road. There were handwritten signs in support of the Black Lives Matter movement inside the car.
