Three men have been arrested on suspicion of killing Audrey Moran and Jonathan Reynoso, a Coachella Valley couple who has been missing for more than three years, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department announced Saturday.

Authorities identified the men as Jesus Ruiz Jr., 41, of Stockton, Manuel Rios, 28, of Coachella and Abraham Fregoso, 32, of Indio. (The sheriff's department released mugshots of Ruiz and Fregoso. However, officials said a photo of Rios was not available Saturday night.)

The sheriff's department declined to release specifics about how they connected the suspects to the case or how they know that Moran and Reynoso have been killed.

According to a news release, investigators said only that they'd obtained "information" which "led to the arrest of three suspects in connection with the murders of Audrey Moran and Jonathan Reynoso."

On May 10, 2017, Moran, 26, of Indio, told family members she was going to pick up Reynoso, her 28-year-old boyfriend, after he returned from a trip with friends to Brawley.

But according to cell phone pings, Moran never placed or received a phone call from outside the eastern side of the Coachella Valley.

The last contact anyone had with the couple was the evening of May 10, 2017, when Moran’s sister received a selfie of Moran and Reynoso at his Palm Desert home.

Police say the photo of the couple was not taken the same day as it was sent, but said the exact date it was taken was unknown.

Moran's phone was turned off at some point after that, police said.

Concerned family members, unable to reach Moran after a day of trying, contacted Indio police.

On May 12, 2017, at about 9 a.m., a vehicle that authorities said Audrey Moran had been driving was discovered along westbound Interstate 10 west of Oak Valley Parkway, within the city of Beaumont. The vehicle was a gray 2010 GMC Terrain with California license number 6MIG265.

There was no sign of either Moran or Reynoso.

In the years since the couple's disappearance, family and friends continued to search for them:

  • Fliers describing Moran and Reynoso and seeking information about their disappearances/whereabouts were distributed across California and in Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. They were also shared via social media across the country.
  • Information was printed on business cards so it could be more easily distributed and kept.
  • A gofundme account collected more than $10,000  for a reward for information on the couple's whereabouts. It was shut down after organizers met their goal.
  • A fundraiser was held at La Quinta Brewing Co. Proceeds went toward the reward.
  • Moran's family held a number of prayer vigils.
  • Reynoso's mother continued to write him letters on Facebook, hoping he'd respond.
  • Information on the couple was shared online with people across the country.
  • A Facebook page was set up for the missing couple.
  • Todd Matthews of the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System's database encouraged people to share information without speculating on what may have happened.
