A man was arrested on the side of the road in Jackson Friday after police say he was involved in a string of violent crimes overnight in Brandon.

Assistant Chief Chris Butts with the Brandon Police Department identified the man as Vincent Ogiamien to WLBT. Ogiamien is accused of shooting a woman, two counts of rape and motor vehicle theft overnight in Brandon.

Butts could not immediately be reached for comment. The condition of the victims was not immediately available.

According to Butts, Ogiamien led police on a chase from Brandon into Jackson before crashing on Interstate 20 and Terry Road. Photos from the scene show over a dozen police cars from multiple agencies, including the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the Rankin County Sheriff's Department and the Jackson Police Department.

WLBT reported that Ogiamien was released from the Rankin County jail Thursday afternoon on a DUI charge. A sergeant at the Rankin County Jail declined to comment.
