SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ - The Somerset County Sheriff's Office has created an anonymous hate crimes reporting site in an effort to combat hate-related crimes in the county.
According to the county website, a bias incident or hate crime is defined as a suspected or confirmed offense or unlawful act that occurs against a person or property on the basis of the protected classes of race, color, religion, gender, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression and national origin.
Examples of hate crimes include racially-motivated graffiti, threats or physical harm, property damage, harassment, assault, terroristic threats, arson, criminal mischief or homicide.
Any potential incidents should be reported to the police so they can be fully investigated, the website said.
