Coronavirus: Tippecanoe records 2,000th case; nine new cases for Purdue students - Journal & Courier

LAFAYETTE – Tippecanoe County recorded its 2,000th confirmed coronavirus case, with 20 new confirmed cases in figures released Tuesday by the Indiana State Department of Health.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Purdue’s COVID-19 dashboard report nine new student cases, pushing that number tot 454 since on-campus testing started Aug. 1.

IN TIPPECANOE AND SURROUNDING COUNTIES

Here were the numbers for the state and Tippecanoe County’s neighbors and the daily increase in coronavirus cases and deaths, according to Tuesday’s daily report from the Indiana State Department of Health.

  • Benton County: 87 cases, unchanged; deaths, zero, unchanged; cases per 10,000 residents: 99.4; positivity rate past seven days: 0.6%.
  • Carroll County: 267 cases, increase of 1; deaths, 13, unchanged; cases per 10,000 residents: 131.8; positivity rate past seven days: 1.7%.
  • Clinton County: 589 cases, increase of 4; deaths, 11, unchanged; cases per 10,000 residents: 181.8; positivity rate past seven days: 2.5%.
  • Fountain County: 113 cases, increase of 1; deaths, 2, unchanged; cases per 10,000 residents: 69.1; positivity rate past seven days: 4.9%.
  • Jasper County: 372 cases, unchanged; deaths, 2, unchanged; cases per 10,000 residents: 110.8; positivity rate past seven days: 5.5%
  • Montgomery County: 493 cases, unchanged; deaths, 21, unchanged; cases per 10,000 residents: 128.5; positivity rate past seven days: 3.9%.
  • Newton County: 162 cases, increase of 3; deaths, 10, unchanged; cases per 10,000 residents: 115.8; positivity rate past seven days: 3.2%.
  • Tippecanoe County: 1,929 cases, increase of 20; deaths, 13, unchanged; cases per 10,000 residents: 103.6; positivity rate past seven days: 4.3%
  • Warren County: 38 cases, unchanged; deaths, 1, unchanged; cases per 10,000 residents: 45.9; positivity rate past seven days: 0%.
  • White County: 467 cases, increase of 1; deaths, 14, unchanged; cases per 10,000 residents: 193.7; positivity rate past seven days: 1.3%.
  • Indiana: 107,229 cases, increase of 758; deaths, 3,235, increase of 20; positivity rate past seven days: 4.8%.

AT PURDUE

Overall, since Aug. 1 and through Sept. 13: 479 people – 454 students and 25 employees – had tested positive out of 17,880 tests, as of Tuesday morning’s update. That included nine additional student cases and no new cases among employees, when compared to the university’s COVID-19 dashboard tally from the previous day. In on-campus testing of students and staff since Aug. 1, there has been a 2.68 percent positive rate.

In cases shown in the most recent seven days: 163 people – including 159 students and four Purdue employees – had tested positive in on-campus testing. That was from 5,439 tests in those seven days – Sept. 7-13 – for a positive rate of 3 percent.

Isolation beds on campus: The university reported that 62 of the 916 beds available to isolate students who test positive for COVID-19 were being used, as of Monday, according to the Purdue COVID-19 dashboard. That was down from 63 beds the day before.
