WARREN, Mich. - The Warren Police Department is announcing a $2,000 reward for help in an investigation into a possible hate crime against a family in the city.
A Black family with signs supporting the Black Lives Matter movement in front of their house had their property vandalized this week. Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer is holding a 10 a.m. press conference to release more details of the crime and other incidents that occurred at the same home afterward.
You can watch the press conference in the video player below.
Individuals slashed tires on their vehicles, threw a rock through the window of their home, and scribbled obscenities and a swastika on one of their trucks.
The threats and destruction prompted a widespread backlash from public officials on the city council and from Mayor Jim Fouts.
"This is completely unacceptable and will NOT be tolerated in our city. The Warren Police Department and Commissioner Bill Dwyer are on the job and will conduct a complete investigation. Those found responsible for this crime will be brought to justice," said Fouts in a statement.
