Checking In on Rudy Giuliani’s Star Witness - The Cut

And now, a scintillating update re: freelance IT consultant Mellissa Carone, the crown jewel among Rudy Giuliani’s “extraordinary witnesses” to alleged voter fraud in Michigan. You will of course remember Carone by the belligerent tone she took with lawmakers last week, and the conspiracy theories she spouted. Now, HuffPost has unearthed further evidence toward Carone’s apparently vast capacity for chaos: According to the outlet, she only just came off probation, allegedly having attempted to frame her fiancé’s ex-wife for stealing personal, pornographic videos. What a twist!

HuffPost reports that Carone — who worked with Dominion Voting Systems in Detroit on Election Day, and who claims her “life was destroyed” by Democrats after she started speaking her purported truth — was previously charged with first degree obscenity and using a computer to commit a crime. At the time (which is to say, between November 2018 and September 2019), Carone reportedly went by Mellissa Wright. Prosecutors believed she emailed her partner’s ex multiple videos of the couple (meaning Carone and her fiancé, Matthew Stackpoole) having sex. The email address used to send the footage reportedly contained the ex’s maiden name, and according to HuffPost, Stackpoole accused this woman of hacking his account. Meanwhile, the ex suspected Carone, who had allegedly been harassing her for years, and the IP address eventually confirmed that theory. According to HuffPost, and also to Deadline Detroit, it appears Carone created a fake email in order to make it look like the ex had been trying to…do revenge porn, maybe? It’s unclear!

Carone subsequently told police she simply wanted to send the ex “over the top,” Deadline Detroit reports. Speaking to HuffPost, however, Carone and Stackpoole maintained that he actually sent the sexy content, and Carone only took the plea deal (for disorderly conduct, earning her 12 months’ probation, ending in mid-September) because she was done with the court drama.

“The reason I got charged for it is it was sent off of my phone,” she said. “I just said screw it, I’m going to have to take [the plea deal].”

Carone does not feel this past incident involving (alleged) IT interference and lies makes her anything less than “100 percent credible” as a witness in the government’s case about (alleged) IT interference and lies. Nor, for that matter, does Giuliani, who told HuffPost: “I don’t know her circumstances, but her testimony is corroborated by other witnesses, documentary evidence and expert testimony.”

The courts strongly disagree.
