HERRIN, Ill. (WSIL) -- Neighbors are sharing their thoughts with News 3 after authorities charge four people in the 2019 death of a Herrin man and release new details about his death.
On Tuesday, December 1st the Williamson County States Attorney's Office issued arrest warrants for first degree murder in the death of Jefferey Ennis.
Those warrants were for 21-year old Malik Felton, 24-year old Austen Norris, 41-year old Keith Kemery and 26-year old Ashley Kaminski.
Court documents obtained by News 3 Wednesday say suspects pepper sprayed, kicked, punched and stabbed Ennis in the head neck and body.
Randy Bose is a neighbor who lives across the street from Ennis' home, he said he remembers the day that he died on January 27.
"I was shocked when I come out early that morning, and seen all of the police out front, but then after looking over at the property I seen that there was a person with a body bag over them," said Bose.
He's not the only neighbor that lived in the area at the time and can recall what happened.
Across the street is the home of Kevin Reagan, he said, he remembers the day too. After hearing that four people have been charged, Reagan said he and his family feel a sense of relief.
"It startled everyone because it happened right here in our block, you know, but I didn't fee threatened, I'm glad that they caught them," said Reagan.
The investigation into Ennis' death lasted nearly 720 days before charges were filed, but Bose says, he understands it's a process and is glad the family is now getting justice.
"I think there was a lot of investigation that had to be done and taken care of and proper channels to be researched, so no, that's not a surprise to me," he added.
Herrin Police Chief David Dorris said his department and the Williamson County States Attorney's Office plan to hold an official press conference at the beginning of 2021.
At that time, the agencies will release mugshots of those charged and more details surrounding the case.
