Dallas County reported four more COVID-19 deaths and 105 new coronavirus cases Saturday.
The latest victims included a Dallas man in his 70s and a Carrollton man in his 70s who both had been hospitalized. Two residents of long-term care facilities also died: a woman in her 80s who lived in a facility in Dallas and a woman in her 80s who lived in a facility in Garland. Both women died in the facility. All of the victims had underlying health conditions.
County Judge Clay Jenkins said in a written statement that the county saw its lowest daily average of new cases this week since April of last year and that it had been the least deadly week of the pandemic since November.
“With the weather heating up, and more and more people going indoors, now is the time to get vaccinated if you have not already,” he said.
Of the new cases, 95 were confirmed and 10 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s overall case total to 304,607, including 261,607 confirmed and 43,000 probable. The death toll is 4,092.
The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 100. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 121.
According to the state, 1,206,547 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 974,198 — 44.7% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Texas
Across the state, 1,474 more coronavirus cases were reported Saturday, including 1,395 new cases and 79 older ones that were recently reported by labs.
The state also reported 37 COVID-19 deaths, raising its toll to 50,844.
Of the new cases, 827 were confirmed and 568 were probable. Of the older cases, 61 were confirmed and 18 were probable.
The statewide confirmed case total was updated Saturday to reflect that 406 confirmed cases were removed from Medina County’s total, the state said in a note on its dashboard.
The state’s case total is now 2,967,034, including 2,530,658 confirmed and 436,376 probable.
According to the state, 13,239,673 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 10,941,863 — 45.5% of the state’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Tarrant County
Tarrant County reported three deaths and 51 cases Saturday. Details about the latest victims were not available.
Of the new cases, 38 were confirmed and 13 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 261,770, including 218,935 confirmed and 42,835 probable. The death toll is 3,541.
According to the state, 901,322 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 765,323 — 44.0% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Collin County
The state added no new deaths and 712 cases to Collin County’s totals Saturday.
No details about the latest victims were available.
Of the new cases, 437 were confirmed and 275 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 92,233, including 75,548 confirmed and 16,685 probable. The death toll is 838.
Saturday’s updated cases come two weeks after a system security upgrade temporarily prevented new cases from being added to the county’s totals, the state health department said.
According to the state, 559,159 people in Collin County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 474,654 — 54.9% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Denton County
Denton County no longer releases COVID-19 data over the weekend.
As of Friday, the county had a total of 76,479 COVID-19 cases, including 56,068 confirmed and 20,411 probable. The death toll stood at 604.
According to the state, 436,084 people in Denton County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 368,074 — 49.1% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Other counties
The Texas Department of State Health Services has taken over reporting for these other North Texas counties. In some counties, new data may not be reported every day.
The latest numbers are:
- Rockwall County: 11,748 cases (9,407 confirmed and 2,341 probable), 157 deaths.
- Kaufman County: 16,375 cases (13,562 confirmed and 2,813 probable), 263 deaths.
- Ellis County: 23,164 cases (19,129 confirmed and 4,035 probable), 322 deaths.
- Johnson County: 20,042 cases (16,948 confirmed and 3,094 probable), 374 deaths.
