Manistee County reports one new COVID-19 case - Manistee News Advocate

MANISTEE — Manistee County has had 1,121 cases of COVID-19 and 19 deaths, as of the most recent data from Thursday's update provided by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

There has been one new case and no new deaths in the county since Wednesday. This is an increase of 11 cases since June 4.

The state shows 560 of the cases in the county listed as female, 553 were listed as male and eight as unknown.

Here are some quick facts from the most recent MDHHS report:

• There have been 893,909 cases and 19,692 deaths statewide during the pandemic.

• This is an increase of 153 cases and 28 deaths.

• There have been 860,080 recoveries from COVID-19. This information was published by the state June 18 and is updated weekly. Recovery numbers show that a person is alive after 30 days from the onset of testing or onset of symptoms.

• Grand Traverse County reported 5,659 cases and 85 deaths; an increase of one case and zero deaths.

• Wexford County reported 2,553 cases and 43 deaths; there was no increase in cases or deaths.

• Benzie County has seen 1,064 cases and 35 deaths; there was no increase in cases or deaths.

• Lake County has seen 591 cases and 15 deaths; there was no increase in cases or deaths.

• Mason County has seen 2,008 cases and 36 deaths; an increase of one case and zero deaths.

Manistee County is considered part of Region 7 for tracking by the state. Region 7 includes Manistee and 17 other counties.

The region had seven cases of adult patients either confirmed or suspected of COVID-19 hospitalized, one on a ventilator and three adults either confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases who were in intensive care as of Thursday's data.

Walk-in COVID-19 vaccine clinics are available every week at all District Health Department #10 locations.

Anyone can get a first or second dose from 8:30 a.m. to 6:20 p.m. on Tuesdays or 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Fridays, including at the Manistee location. The Pfizer vaccine is available for anyone over age 12; Moderna for those over age 18 and Johnson & Johnson for those over age 18. One can schedule online at dhd10.org/schedule or call 888-217-3904 for assistance.

Vaccines may be available for children ages 12 and over. Any child receiving a vaccine must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Verification of date of birth is required.

Manistee County has about 55.7% of its population completely vaccinated against COVID-19 according to the state’s data from Thursday. This is 12,259 out of 21,990 eligible residents, according to 2019 Census estimates for people 12 years old and older. In Benzie County, about 60.7% of the residents are completely vaccinated.

There have been about 8.9 million vaccine doses administered in Michigan; 51.3% of the state’s eligible population is completely vaccinated. About 23,883 doses total were administered in Manistee County, according to the latest data from Thursday.

DHD#10 is allowing parents and guardians to schedule an appointment to vaccinate their children age 12 and over from COVID-19 at www.dhd10.org/schedule.

District Health Department #10 also is offering off-site vaccine clinics.

Participants do not need an appointment. All clinics will have Pfizer for people 12 and older and most will have Moderna and Johnson & Johnson for 18 and older.

The following surrounding counties currently have off-site COVID-19 vaccine clinics scheduled:

MANISTEE

• July 3, 12:30-2:30 — Manistee National Forest Festival, Manistee

• July 24, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. — Arcadia Daze, Arcadia

MASON

• July 10, 10 a.m. to noon — Feeding America Food Truck, Sherman Township Hall, Fountain

• Aug. 14, 10 a.m. to noon — Feeding America Food Truck, Bachelor Evangelical Church, Fountain

The Northwest Michigan Health Services is offering several COVID-19 vaccine clinics in the area this week, including the following:

• 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 24 at Tom’s Food Market in Northport;

• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 24 at Northwest Michigan Health Services office, 6051 Frankfort Hwy. in Benzonia; and

• 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 25 at Shelby State Bank in Hart.

Vaccines may be available for children ages 12 and over. Any child receiving a vaccine must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Verification of date of birth is required.

The latest numbers from the CDC show the U.S. has reported 33.4 million cases and 600,442 deaths from COVID-19.

The U.S. has the highest counts globally. India has the second highest number of cases and Brazil has the second highest number of deaths.

WHO lists about 179.2 million confirmed cases and about 3.89 million deaths in the world. There have been about 2.62 billion vaccine doses administered worldwide.
