Building A New Computer? Get More Room In Your Case And Budget With The Best PC Cases - Forbes

bulukuci.blogspot.com

With CPUs and GPUs a little hard to come by at fair prices, one upgrade you can make to your PC that will guarantee you value for money is buying one of the best PC cases. Whether you want to give your PC a new look, want greater support for water cooling, or would like easier access to contemporary ports like USB-C, a new PC case can make your PC feel fresher than it's been in years.

It's also an important starting point if you're looking to build a new PC. The physical dimensions of your system will determine what motherboard it can fit, what kind of cooling options you have, and how big a graphics card you can wedge in there (assuming you can afford one). What material it's made from is a major factor too. Steel is heavy but durable, and plastic is lightweight but flimsy. Brushed aluminum looks gorgeous but shows fingerprints almost as much as glass.

Everything has its pros and cons and associated costs, but whether you're looking for a case big or small, affordable or something cutting-edge and eye wateringly expensive, here are some of the best cases you can buy, with a whole range of features and options.

Best PC Case Overall

Dark Base Pro 900

  • Motherboard support: E-ATX, ATX, MicroATX, Mini-ITX
  • Size:  (W) 243 x (H) 586 x (D) 577 mm

The rudely-named case manufacturer ‘be quiet! makes a range of excellent cases, but the absolute flagship of its high-end range is the Dark Base Pro 900. It includes every technical feature and innovation BQ has pioneered in recent years, all put together with exceptional built quality and modularity.

At 14.4KG, it’s a big and relatively heavy case, but it has heaps of space for anything you could want to put in your PC, from big motherboards, to giant watercooling radiator and fan configurations. It comes with built in support for front-panel USB-A 3.2 and USB-C 3.2 ports, a Qi wireless charger in the top, and a versatile dual rail fan controller to help you better customize your system cooling.

The side panel is tempered glass and fitted with LEDs to better light up the interior and show off your gorgeous PC. Your storage drives, cooling fans, and even the PSU shroud can be fitted in various configurations and placements to better accommodate your hardware needs, and you can even relocate the motherboard tray to an inverted configuration should you want to reverse your system for improved airflow or looks.

Available with a choice of three color accents for a variety of different styles, this case ticks about every box out there, offering excellent airflow, fantastic build quality, and a range of features and customization level matched by few others. It's not a cheap case, but you certainly get what you pay for. The be quiet! Dark Base Pro 900 is the best case you can buy today.

Best mATX PC Case

NZXT H510i

  • Motherboard support: ATX, MicroATX, Mini-ITX
  • Size: (W) 210 x (H) 460 x (D) 428 mm

NZXT's H-series cases are all award winners in their own right, but the H510i stands apart as a real keystone of the range. Bridging the gap between the smallest and the largest options, the H510i has the space for capable water-cooling and its own clever fan controller, whilst cutting back on all the wasted space of its larger alternatives.

Like its lineup contemporaries, the H510i enjoys the same high-quality tempered glass side panel with discrete screws to maximize the view into your PC's interior. The PSU shroud has its own drive mount for displaying your boot drive. There's also space for two additional 2.5-inch drives on the back of the motherboard tray, and a 3.5-inch mount in the front part of the chamber.

Cable management is some of the best of any PC case, with discrete channels and velcro cable ties behind the right side-panel to help minimize clutter and air turbulence. That makes it great for frequent case modders too, as you can easily isolate and label cables to make adjusting your cooling setup or other components quick and easy.

The H510i evolves the original H400i case with a second generation cooling and fan controller with a faster internal processor, the option for a vertical GPU mount, and the inclusion of a USB-C connector in the front I/O panel. It's also a tad bigger, so you can fit a standard ATX motherboard in there at a push.

Best Mini-ITX PC Case

NZXT H210i

  • Motherboard Support: Mini-ITX
  • Size: (W) 210 x (H) 349 x (D) 372mm

For an even more compact, high-quality build, NZXT's H210i is the perfect choice. It features the same solid construction and pleasing aesthetics of its larger cousins, but fits them all into a miniaturized chassis, making for a compact but attractive, high-performance Mini-ITX case.

Like other H-series cases, the H210i enjoys a capable Smart Device V2 fan controller, with support for three fan channels, and two RGB lighting channels at the same time, all manageable through the capable CAM software. Two 120mm fans are included, though there's space for an additional two fans in the front panel, with or without a 240mm/280mm water-cooling radiator attached.

You also get the same cable tidies and channels on the rear panel of the case for a neat and optimized installation. While that hides away everything you don't want to see, the gorgeous tempered glass side panel lets you show off everything you do. It even has the same SSD mount on the PSU shroud to keep your boot drive front and center.

If you want to color code your system beyond the included RGB lighting strips, this case is available in white and red, as well as black, with that splash of color on the front panel and interior cable tidy helping to make this case stand out from the crowd.

For something a little more compact but high quality and less moddable, the InWin A1 is an excellent choice. It's more expensive, but comes with its own 650w PSU, making it well worth considering for those wanting a super-compact PC.

Best PC Airflow Case

Phanteks Eclipse P500A High Airflow

  • Motherboard Support: ATX, Micro-ATX, Mini-ITX
  • Size: (W) 210 x (H) 508 x (D) 510mm

The Phanteks Eclipse P500A is designed to maximize case airflow and it does it fantastically well. Using the now-popular mesh style front panel, this highly perforated case offers maximum air intake with minimal resistance to airflow. It pulls all that air through its integrated dust filter, so keeping the case clean and tidy remains easy, despite the increased air moving through your system.

To help push and pull all that air in and out of your Phanteks Eclipse, it has space for up to six 140mm fans, or up to seven 120mms. If you're watercooling, there's space for a 360mm or 420mm radiator at the front, up to a 360mm radiator at the top, and the choice of 140mm or 120mm radiator at the rear.

There's heaps of storage space, with the option of multiple hard drives and 2.5-inch SSDs hidden behind the motherboard, and it comes with full support for 3-slot vertical GPU mounting. It even has the option of fitting two systems in one (dual system kit sold separately).

Considering the high specification of this case, its $100 price tag is just as staggering as its feature set. This is a fantastic chassis that competes with the best cases out there, and at an awesome price.

Best Showcase PC Case

Thermaltake AH T600

  • Motherboard Support: E-ATX, ATX, Micro-ATX, Mini-ITX
  • Size: (W) 337 x (H) 628 x (D) 763 mm

If you want a PC that stands out, that turns heads, that could act as a centerpiece in a room all by itself, there's nothing quite like the Thermaltake AH T600. Designed to look a little like an "attack helicopter," it's an open case that gives a uniquely up close and personal look at your internal hardware, while providing fantastic airflow over all your components, making it one of the coolest cases you can own in every sense of the word.

There's plenty of space in there for building large, E-ATX PCs with dual loop watercooling systems, whether you're using soft or hard tubing. All the clear panels on the front and sides are made from tempered glass, and the chassis is constructed with solid steel, making this case sturdy and resistant to flex and bend. All the panels are modular too, letting you remove them for easy access to the internals — great for building custom PCs with vertical GPUs and complicated watercooling.

The AH T600 has a great selection of USB A 3.0, 2.0, and USB-C I/O ports at the front too, alongside headphone and microphone jacks. RGB lighting is abundant in this case, and you can control it all through Thermaltake RGB Plus software. Available in Snow white and Black, this is the best PC case for you if you want something truly unique.

Best PC Case For Water-cooling

Lian Li PC-011 Dynamic XL

  • Motherboard Support: EATX, ATX, MicroATX, Mini-ITX
  • Size: (W) 285 x (H) 513 x (D) 471mm

Water-cooling isn't easy in small cases. It's hard to get the necessary airflow to make the most of its high density radiators, and routing tubing (be it hard or soft) is difficult when you only have so much space for your hands. That's why the best cases for water-cooling are on the larger side, and arguably the best of them all is the Lian Li PC-011 Dynamic XL.

It features three mounts for radiators–each up to 360mm in size–with space for a total of 10 fans for near-unprecedented cooling performance. Every potential intake is also covered with a magnetic dust filter to help avoid dust build-up and make cleaning as easy as possible.

All that space also makes it possible to support large water-cooling pumps and reservoirs, and even flow plates for a more contemporary water-cooling system. Tempered glass on the front and side panels make sure that everyone can see all your handy work when you're done too.

RGB lighting supports Asus' Aura Sync right out of the box, and you can even control it all from the front panel buttons to have your case lighting sync up with the motherboard with little effort. The chassis itself is made from a gorgeous aluminum, including the front panel I/O, which includes high-speed USB-C and A ports, as well as twin 3.5mm headphone and microphone jacks.

Best Quiet PC Case

be quiet! Silent Base 801

  • Motherboard support: EATX, ATX, MicroATX, Mini-ITX
  • Size: (W) 245 x (H) 533 x (D) 539mm

All of be quiet!'s cases feature clever noise cancelling features, but its Silent Base range of cases goes above and beyond to make for a supremely serene experience. It comes pre-fitted with three of be quiet!'s own brand of Pure Wings fans that are some of the quietest in the industry. To further silence any turbulence their airflow might generate, this case is fitted with noise dampening vents that route the air through a series of holes.

Other system fans, water-cooling pumps and noise generating components are further mitigated through a thick layer of noise dampening foam on several panels. The front, top and both side panels are equipped with a 10mm layer, making for super noise cancelling capabilities. On top of that, vibrations are dampened through a decoupling of the PSU bracket, motherboard tray and hard drive cages.

There's plenty of space inside for large heatsinks if you go for air cooling. There are also mounts for up to 420mm water-cooling radiators in the front, top and rear of the case; more than enough cooling capabilities for even the hottest of multi-graphics card and high-end CPU configurations.

Side panels are built with push pin connections, making them easy to attach and detach—great for modders or frequent system tweakers. The front panel includes USB-A 2.0, 3.2, and separate 3.5mm jacks for microphones and headphones.

The only downside to this case is that it has been slightly eclipsed by its younger sibling, the be quiet! Silent Base 802. Unfortunately, that case is sold out everywhere. If you can find it at a good price, grab that one instead, but both the 801 and 802 are some of the best PC cases money can buy.

Best Budget PC Case

Fractal Design Focus G

  • Motherboard support: ATX, MicroATX, Mini-ITX
  • Size: (W) 205 x (H) 444 x (D) 464

A great case doesn't have to break the bank. The Fractal Design Focus G has many of the features of its more expensive contemporaries, but at a much more attractive price.

Despite that low cost, it still comes fitted with a pair of 120mm intake fans—with space for up to six if you want to improve your cooling further—and includes space for two 3.5-inch drive bays fitted with vibration dampeners. There are two 5.25-inch drive bay spaces too, which can be useful for legacy optical drive function, though more modern uses include water-cooling reservoirs and pumps, as well as touch screen fan controllers.

Elsewhere in the case you'll find dust filters to help prevent dust build up, cable routing space behind the motherboard tray, enough space for large and tall CPU coolers and for water-cooling radiators in both the front and top panels. Plus, you can let everyone take a look at your internal components using the plastic windowed side panel. The front panel includes USB-A 3.0 and 2.0 ports, as well as a pair of 3.5mm headphone and microphone jacks, and it’s all available in a variety of color options, including black, white, red, blue and gray.

Best Gaming PC Case

Corsair Carbide 275R

  • Motherboard support: ATX, MicroATX, Mini-ITX
  • Size: (W) 211 x (H) 446 x (D) 455

Gaming PCs are often sold on the idea of needing heaps of LED lighting, or gaudy case designs, but nothing could be further from the truth. While buying a high-end case with all the bells and whistles is nice, when it comes down to it, the best case for a gaming PC is one that gives you a high quality chassis that keeps your high-powered components cool, and does so without stretching your budget.

The Corsair Carbide 275R is the perfect case for that job. Its minimalist looks won't distract you during play, its cooling is excellent and its price is affordable. The tempered glass side panel lets you give everyone a look at your components if you want to, but the case itself is classy and understated—the best of both worlds.

It has space for 360mm, 240mm and 120mm radiators for intensive water-cooling loops and up to six cooling fans, so you won't have any trouble keeping your components cool. There's also a mesh-front airflow model that can further improve airflow if you need it. The built-in cable routing keeps everything nice and tidy, and the expansive storage space for 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch drives gives you all the room you'll need for your expansive Steam library.
