CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Health reported Sunday that the number of confirmed or probable infections of the novel coronavirus has risen to 1,101,934, up just 377 since Saturday.

The state did not report any new deaths in the last 24 hours. According to the state’s COVID-19 dashboard, the total number of deaths is no longer available daily. It will be updated two times a week.

The state reported 585 new cases Saturday. In a message near the top of its coronavirus information webpage, the Ohio Department of Health said Sunday that it will not report daily statistical updates on Monday in observance of Memorial Day. The statistics released Tuesday will also reflect Monday’s figures.

In the past 24 hours, COVID-19 hospitalizations statewide rose by 11, which is one-eighth of the 21-day rolling average of 88 daily hospitalizations. No COVID-19 patients were transferred to the ICU in the past 24 hours, while the current 21-day rolling average sit at 10.

Sunday’s case count is far lower than the 21-day rolling average, which currently sits at 873. It is also the smallest daily change in cases reported since June 14, 2020. While daily totals last summer mostly remained below 1,000, the figure on June 14 (also a Sunday) was 300.

Ohio reported another 9,377 COVID-19 vaccines started, meaning at least one dose has been given, as of Sunday afternoon. A total of 5,298,081 vaccines have been started in the state, representing 45.32% of Ohio’s population. A total of 4,653,326 vaccinations have been completed (39.81% of Ohio’s population).

Coronavirus statistics on weekends often lag due to reporting delays.

There are more than 170 million confirmed cases of coronavirus and greater than 3.5 million deaths worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins researchers. In the U.S., there are more than 33 million confirmed cases of coronavirus and close to 595,000 COVID-19 deaths.
