The Utah Department of Health reported Sunday that 194 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past day but didn’t announce any new deaths.

The 194 new cases is the lowest tally since June 7, when the state reported 174 new cases. But the steady increase in case counts throughout the week means Utah now has a seven-day rolling average of 277 positive cases per day. Exactly one week ago, the seven-day average was 232 per day.

The state’s coronavirus dashboard indicates that since June 2, Utah has experienced a rise in cases. During the six days prior to June 2, the state was in a plateau in regards to cases.

Utah could still be experiencing the effects of the Memorial Day holiday, which contributed to an uptick in infections.

Meanwhile, 149 people are hospitalized with the coronavirus, compared to 164 on Saturday. One more person, however, is in an intensive care unit compared to Saturday.

Vaccine doses administered in past day/total doses administered • 6,333 / 2,734,788.

Utahns fully vaccinated • 1,303,523.

The state is inching closer to having 41% of all Utahns fully vaccinated. The exact number is 40.7% as of Sunday after surpassing the 40% threshold the day before.

But when it comes to residents 12 and over, the percentage of people fully vaccinated is now 50.3%.

The state is still far away from reaching herd immunity, which would require between 70% and 85% of residents to be fully vaccinated. And despite vaccination numbers climbing, people are still dying from COVID-19.

Cases reported in past day • 194.

Deaths reported in past day • Zero.

Tests reported in past day • 2,154 people were tested for the first time. A total of 3,621 people were tested.

Hospitalizations reported in the past day • 149. That’s 15 fewer than on Saturday. Of those currently hospitalized, 58 are in intensive care units, one more than on Saturday.

Percentage of positive tests • Under the state’s original method of measuring the rate of positive COVID-19 tests, the rate is 9%. That’s higher than the seven-day average of 7.2%.

The state’s new method counts all test results, including repeated tests of the same individual. Sunday’s rate was 5.4%, higher than the seven-day average of 4.6%.
