A local judge has ruled that a man facing several charges — including armed robbery and car theft — will remain in custody while he awaits trial.

Judge Jared Kallunki of New Mexico’s 5th Judicial District Court at a hearing Wednesday granted a motion by the District Attorney’s Office to keep 18-year-old Audric Lacey of Roswell in pretrial detention, according to court records.
In granting the motion, Kallunki ruled no bail should be set for Lacey because he represents a danger to the community and that no conditions of release can reasonably assure the safety of the public or potential witnesses in the case.
Lacey and a 16-year-old girl are accused of engaging in several criminal acts late on the afternoon of Aug. 30 in Roswell. According to an Aug. 31 press release from the Roswell Police Department, they are now each charged with four counts of armed robbery; five counts of conspiracy to commit armed robbery; one count of shooting at or from a motor vehicle; and one count of attempted armed robbery.
In addition to those counts, Lacey also is charged with unlawful taking of a motor vehicle and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The District Attorney’s Office in its motion argued that the seriousness of the crimes combined with the fact that Lacey in the past nine months had been convicted on charges of possession of marijuana, as well as traffic violations — and the fact that he failed to appear at two separate court appearances — show that he would be unlikely to comply with conditions of release.
“Of the two cases the defendant has ever had filed against him, he has failed to appear once in each case and thus is unlikely to appear in this matter,” the motion states.
The RPD press release states that on Aug. 30 at 4:30 p.m. Lacey and his accomplice reportedly tried and failed to carjack a Hyundai in the parking lot of Loveless Park in the 1200 block of North Atkinson Avenue.
When the driver managed to drive away from the scene, Lacey reportedly fired a gun, striking the vehicle seven times, though no one was injured.
Court records state the two defendants then allegedly stole a Buick that at the time was sitting empty and idling in the same parking lot. They then drove to the Cielo Grande Recreation Area in the 1600 block of West College Boulevard.
The two suspects then allegedly robbed five teenagers at gunpoint who were in the recreation area, taking from them a necklace, multiple cellphones and AirPods.
A short time later police found Lacey and his alleged accomplice sitting in the Buick parked in the driveway of a 3100 block of Radcliffe Drive home. According to the RPD press release, both suspects were questioned before each was served with an arrest warrant.
Lacey was then booked at the Chaves County Detention Center, while the girl was taken to the Lea County Juvenile Detention Center, the press release states.
