Investigations that stretch far beyond Woodhaven are intensely underway after a Woodhaven car dealership and a restaurant were targets of crimes.
The incidents, one at Leo’s Coney Island, 23305 Allen Road, and the other at Feldman Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Woodhaven, 23940 Allen Road, occurred in the early morning hours of Sept. 12.
Police said they occurred just hours apart.
Woodhaven Police Chief Robert Toth said it is imperative to keep a good deal of information about the crimes undisclosed for the time being in order to protect the integrity of the investigation.
Nevertheless, he did release some information.
According to Toth, police were first called to the Coney Island, which had been broken into and a safe stolen.
Officers were later called to the dealership, where the chief confirmed that several cars were stolen and others broken into.
He did not want to specify the number of vehicles involved.
It appears the businesses are part of a larger crime spree since similar incidents have been reported Downriver and beyond.
The other communities involved are not yet known.
Toth stressed that there are good reasons behind the department’s decisions to keep some information private.
Police also aren’t yet ready to release descriptions of the individuals involved.
The chief said police believe several other cases are related because there is video surveillance footage available and the descriptions appear to match.
