CROMWELL — Police arrested two men Friday who are connected to a multi-state, violent crime spree.
The Cromwell Police Department received a call Friday about two suspicious cars on Birch Court in the Cromwell Hills condominium complex.
One car, which was left vacant, was reported stolen out of New Hampshire on Thanksgiving and was involved in a “multi-state violent crime spree,” police said.
The second car left before officers arrived, police said.
Officers started conducting surveillance on the vacant car and, about an hour later, the suspects returned. Officers attempted to stop the car before it left the parking spot, but it went around the patrol car at a high speed, police said.
The car then left the parking lot and crashed into a stream where it became stuck. Police said the suspect, 21-year-old Wesley Lacombe of Westbrook, allegedly fled on foot, so police chased and apprehended him.
Police charged Lacombe with first-degree larceny, interfering with an officer, criminal trespass, criminal possession of ammunition, possession marijuana with the intent to sell, engaging an officer in a pursuit, reckless driving, operating under suspension and evading responsibility.
The state Department of Corrections also had a remand to custody order for Lacombe. He is being held on $150,000 bond and will appear in court Dec. 6.
Police also arrested Cameron Jackson, 22, of Middletown. He was charged with first-degree conspiracy to commit larceny. He posted $50,000 bond and is set to appear in court Dec. 14.
