With lower covid-19 case counts continuing in Pennsylvania and the region, coronavirus figures are reaching lows not seen in about a year. Allegheny County achieved just that with new data released Tuesday.

Cases

Allegheny County reported 113 new covid-19 cases over the past three days, according to the county Health Department. Of those (74 confirmed and 39 probable), 39 were reported on Sunday, 25 on Monday and 49 on Tuesday. The cases range from 3 months to 87 years, with a median age of 43, according to the health department. Allegheny County now has reported fewer than 100 additional for 11 consecutive days. The county’s seven-day case average (50) is now the lowest since June 27. Total cases in Allegheny County are now 101,336.

From Sunday to Tuesday, the state reported 1,488 new covid cases, according to the state Department of Health. There were 489 cases reported on Sunday, 315 on Monday and 684 on Tuesday, bringing the state’s total case count to 1,202,863. The seven-day case average in Pennsylvania is now 771, the lowest it has been since Sept. 26.

A total of 37 covid cases were reported from Sunday to Tuesday in Westmoreland County (12 on Sunday, five on Monday and 20 on Tuesday). The county’s seven-day case average (20) is the lowest since Sept. 30. Total cases in Westmoreland County are now 34,129.

Vaccinations

According to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Pennsylvania has 7,466,772 individuals with at least one shot of a covid vaccine (58.3% of the population) and 5,573,531 individuals fully vaccinated (43.5% of the population).

In terms of vaccinations for people 18 and older, there are 7,218,996 people with one shot of a vaccine (71% of the population) and 5,507,014 adults full vaccinated (54.2% of that population group). Gov. Tom Wolf has previously said that the mask mandate in Pennsylvania would be lifted after 70% of adults were fully vaccinated. Last week, Acting Secretary of Health Alison Beam said the mask mandate would be lifted no later than June 28, and sooner if the vaccination goal set by Wolf was met.

In Allegheny County, 746,761 people have received at least one shot of a covid vaccine as of Tuesday. Of those people, 547,820 are fully vaccinated (44.7%).

As of Tuesday, 171,264 people in Westmoreland County have received at least one shot, with 136,347 (37.3%) being full vaccinated.

Hospitalizations

Covid hospitalizations in the state are under 1,000 for the first time in 223 days, according to state data. As of Tuesday, there were 989 people hospitalized for covid-19 in Pennsylvania. The current hospitalization count was down from 1,076 on Saturday. Tuesday marked the ninth day in a row that covid hospitalization decreased in the state.

Allegheny County had 109 covid patients hospitalized as of Tuesday. That was down from 112 people on Saturday.

There were 15 people hospitalized for covid-related issues Tuesday in Westmoreland County. The county’s current covid hospitalization has decreased in five of the past seven days.

Deaths

The state reported 11 covid-related deaths over the past three days, according to the Department of Health. There were six deaths reported Sunday, five on Monday and none Tuesday. It was the first time since mid-September that single-digit deaths were reported daily over a three-day span. Total deaths in Pennsylvania are now 27,214.

According to the Allegheny County Health Department, there were no new covid deaths reported in the county over the past three days. Total deaths in Allegheny County remain at 1,945.

In Westmoreland County, there were no new deaths reported from Sunday to Tuesday. There has not been a covid death reported in the county since Friday. Total deaths remain at 766.
