The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in South Dakota increased by 149 on Monday, breaking the record for active cases for a third day in a row. 

South Dakota has a total of 11,425 COVID-19 cases as of Monday, according to the state health department. That doesn't include people who show symptoms or are asymptomatic but are not tested. A total of 1,691 test results were reported for 703 people on Monday. The positive rate for people tested for the coronavirus on Monday was 21.2%.

The death toll remained at 161 on Monday.

The state has a record 1,570 active COVID-19 cases, according to the state health department. Recoveries statewide increased to 9,694. 

Six more people have been hospitalized, and 65 are currently hospitalized. The state health department says 965 total people have been hospitalized during the pandemic.

Coronavirus patients are occupying 3% of staffed hospital beds in the state while 50% of hospital beds are available, according to the state health department. Coronavirus patients are occupying 5% of intensive care unit beds, and 34% of ICU beds are available. Five percent of ventilators are being used by coronavirus patients while 84% of the state's ventilator capacity is available.

Cases in Minnehaha County increased by 28 to a total of 4,924, and Lincoln County's cases increased by eight to a total of 795 cases, according to the state health department. Of the cases, 4,388 have recovered in Minnehaha County and 680 cases have recovered in Lincoln County.

According to the state health department:

Pennington County's cases increased by 28 to 1,070 total cases on Monday.

Clay County's cases increased by 14 to 172 total cases.

Lawrence County's cases total 120 after an eight-case increase on Monday.

Brown, Brookings and Meade saw an increase of six each to 555 total for Brown, 188 total for Brookings and 170 total for Meade.

Bennett County's cases increased by five to 11 total on Monday.

Yankton, Custer and Hughes counties had an increase of four cases to 183 total for Yankton, 86 total for Custer and 111 for Hughes.

Union and Codington counties had an increase of three each to 235 total for Union and 220 total for Codington.
