A Mauldin cold case will be featured on the Oxygen channel’s “Cold Justice” TV series.
The 90-minute episode, which is part of the show’s sixth season, will review Debra Chisholm’s arson and murder case. The 44-year-old was found in her home on Dec. 12, 2007, four hours after a fire was extinguished at her home on Brookbend Road in Mauldin.
Chisholm died from blunt force trauma as well as seven stab wounds, said Mauldin Police Department Detective Sargent Robert Thacker.
According to Thacker, the Oxygen series has been interested in the case since 2013, but it wasn’t until Chief George Miller was appointed interim chief that the Mauldin police department said okay to the request.
“During each show, they review the case,” said Thacker. “Kelly Siegler is a former prosecutor in Harris County, Texas. She reviews the case and gives ideas of what a prosecutor would need or look for to make the case go forward. By them coming and looking, it makes us know that we have covered all of our bases and are comfortable with making the case go forward.”
After filming the episode with Siegler, the Mauldin Police Department on Sept. 17 arrested and charged Dwayne Taylor, of Greenville, in Chisholm’s death.
While almost 14 years have passed since Chisholm’s death, Taylor was always on the Mauldin Police Department’s radar, but they did not have enough evidence to charge anyone until Cold Justice came in and helped them review the evidence.
Since Cold Justice premiered Sept. 3, 2013, the law enforcement agencies that have worked with the show have made 45 arrests with 20 convictions as of June 2021, according to Oxygen channel’s website.
The show’s Season 6B premieres Nov. 6 at 8 p.m. with the Mauldin episode airing sometime in December.
