Montgomery County’s COVID-19 case rate reached its lowest level since late September on Friday, with a seven-day average of 7.7 cases per 100,000 residents. The mark is the lowest since Sept. 28, when the rate was 7.4 cases.
The case rate in Montgomery County increased steadily during the winter, reaching a peak of 49.8 cases per 100,000 residents on Jan. 12. In the months since it has fallen steadily.
The county recorded 68 new cases of the virus on Saturday, bringing the total to 69,873 since the pandemic started more than a year ago. The county has added fewer than 100 cases for nine of the past 10 days.
The county has recorded 1,476 confirmed deaths from COVID-19 since the pandemic started, as of Saturday.
There also have been 46 “probable” deaths. “Probable” deaths have the coronavirus listed as the cause but have not been confirmed by laboratory tests yet.
As of Friday, 36.5% of county residents were fully vaccinated and 52.7% were partially vaccinated.
As of Saturday, Maryland has had 448,340 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic and 8,575 confirmed deaths.
